The provincial capital of Bregenz invites you to its visionary international dance festival in the upcoming festival season from March to May 2024 - for the first time with a world premiere. Dance is a global language that moves, touches and unites people and knows no borders. With the Bregenz Spring Festival, the provincial capital of Bregenz has been able to contribute to this for 37 years.

"Dance is a form of communication without words with music and draws us expressively into the spell of its emotional world. Dance is also a confrontation with the present. With the world premiere of "The People United", Richard Siegal and Igor Levit focus on the balance of our society, our entire world. The entire festival program will be a profound examination. Bregenz Spring 2024 will touch everyone through the power of dance and become an overall experience," says Michael Rauth, City Councillor for Culture.

Five world-renowned companies from France, Israel, the Netherlands and Germany take their audiences into the diverse and epic world of dance with expressive performances in the Bregenz Festspielhaus. The festival program is an intense interplay of iconic pieces and new creations, including the Austrian premiere of Fouad Boussouf's "Fêu" and the world premiere of "The People United" by Igor Levit and Richard Siegal.
The official start of the 37th edition of Bregenz Spring will take place on March 9, 2024 at 8 pm in the Bregenz Festspielhaus with the performance of the three pieces "Annonciation", "Torpeur" and "Noces" by the Ballet Preljocaj - CCN d'Aix-en-Provence from France. All three works are united by the power of an extraordinary choreographic language that began with Preljocaj's first productions almost 40 years ago.
The Austrian premiere of "Fêu" by the French company "Le Phare - CCN du Havre Normandie", an all-female ensemble, will take place on March 16, 2024 under the artistic direction of Fouad Boussouf. Boussouf sought inspiration for the work in his Moroccan childhood and in the ancient beginnings of our time. Ten dancers lead an endless round dance, a cycle without beginning or end.

The latest creation of "Into the Hairy" by Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal for the French company "L-E-V Dance Company" will be performed at the Festspielhaus on May 4, 2024. The piece was created together with Gai Behar as co-creator and the British musician Koreless - currently one of the most exciting talents in experimental electronic music - who created the original soundtrack for the piece.
Ten powerful ballet duets by Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite are embedded in two rhythmically energetic pieces on the evening of May 10, 2024: The "Nederlands Dans Theater 2" celebrates the 25th anniversary of the classic "Minus 16" by Ohad Naharin. "Bedtime Story" by young choreographer Nadav Zelner will open the program with passionate and fast-paced dance, while "Ten Duets on a Theme of Rescue" by Crystal Pite goes through moments of tenderness, conflict and liberation.
The aktionstheater ensemble celebrates its 35th anniversary with the world premiere of "ALL ABOUT ME - Kein Leben nach mir" on May 16, 2024 in cooperation with the Vorarlberger Landestheater. The play addresses current social insecurity against the backdrop of an impending Europe-wide shift to the right and the supremacy of autocratic systems on an international level.
Bregenz Spring will come to a brilliant conclusion on May 18, 2024 with the world premiere of "The People United". The Cultural Service of the City of Bregenz has succeeded in bringing together the world-famous German-Russian pianist Igor Levit with the US choreographer Richard Siegal. For the performance, Siegal and Levit have focused on Frederic Rzewski's solidary polyphony "The People United Will Never Be Defeated". It will be an evening of dance and live music that celebrates the freedom and spirit of resistance of an entire society and the fight for a fairer future.
