Unique in terms of architecture and exhibition: the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck transforms the historic railroad station into an art venue that re-stages culture with sweeping views of the Rhine, avant-garde art and summer concerts.
The Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck impressively combines art-historical architecture and modern art on a plateau overlooking the Rhine. It combines the late classicist station building from 1856 with an elegant new building designed by world-famous architect Richard Meier. The route through a tunnel with a neon installation via an elevator experience and a bridge opens up spectacular views of the Rhine and the Siebengebirge landscape.
The museum focuses on the work of the avant-garde artist couple Hans Arp and Sophie Taeuber-Arp, complemented by important exhibitions of contemporary artists as well as highlights from the Rau Collection for UNICEF with works by Monet, Cézanne and others. Changing presentations are shown on four levels, enabling diversity and dialog between epochs and styles. The Arp Lab offers creative workshops for families, and events such as classical concerts, readings and guided tours provide a varied cultural program. The Remagen Sculpture Embankment also runs directly along the Rhine - an artistically designed route with sculptures that extend the museum visit into an open-air experience.
