With its long tradition and a modern opera house at its heart, Leipzig Opera is much more than just a venue - it is a lively hub of music, theater art and urban life.
Leipzig Opera can look back on over 300 years of musical theater tradition. The first opera house was opened on Brühl in 1693, making Leipzig one of the earliest cities in Europe to have a civic opera house. Over the centuries, the opera has developed into an institution that is closely linked to the city's musical history. Today, Leipzig's opera is not only an artistic stage, but also a cultural symbol.

The artistic ensemble of the Leipzig Opera includes not only classical opera performances, but also ballet, musicals and modern productions. A special feature is the close collaboration with the renowned Gewandhaus Orchestra, which has provided musical accompaniment for all opera and ballet performances since 1840. Oper Leipzig also includes the Musikalische Komödie in the Lindenau district, which is dedicated to another genre with operettas and musicals.
Visitors experience a diverse program with national and international guests, world premieres and newly interpreted classics for an audience of all generations. The Leipzig Opera is not only a place of musical performance, but also a mirror of the city - a building whose sound spaces and stage tell stories and connect people.
