The exhibition shows highlights from Herwig Zen's graphic oeuvre and juxtaposes these with key works of painting by Adolf Frohner. From Frohner's furious painting Red Love to Zens' Dances of Death and the Catacombs of Palermo, visitors can expect a thoroughly Viennese view of the subject of death and desire.

Both Herwig Zens (1943-2019) and Adolf Frohner (1934-2007) not only worked simultaneously as painters, draughtsmen and printmakers, but also as passionate professors who influenced generations of students. The exhibition presents a dialog between these two artists, who are among the classics of the Viennese art scene.
Throughout their lives, Zens and Frohner dealt with questions of human existence between the poles of Eros and Tanatos in their art. The dark sides of existence become just as visible as the pleasurable and vital. The dramatic as well as humorous - typically Viennese - confrontation with the figure of death can be illustrated in the intimate format of prints and in monumental paintings. In honor of his 80th birthday, the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich is also dedicating Herwig Zens. No Time is also dedicating a show to the artist (04.11.2023 - 14.04.2024).
