Exoticism, elegance and a pinch of Viennese charm: in Emmerich Kálmán's "Die Bajadere", East and West meet in a dazzling operetta full of longing, confusion and musical esprit.
The Schlosstheater Fulda presents this colorful stage experience in the style of the Golden Twenties in a production by Theater Hof.
Sita, the young and beautiful bayadere, dances at an Indian royal court and is the lover of the powerful Prince Radjami, who is also having fun with a European lady called Adele. Sita, for her part, harbors warm feelings for Siegfried, a European adventurer who is striving for fame and fortune in India. But the social rules of the game do not allow this without further ado.
Emmerich Kálmán's operetta is a mixture of intrigue, misunderstandings, love confusion and dramatic twists and turns, with lively dance rhythms, exotic melodies and catchy arias: colorful music that conveys the atmosphere of India without relying too much on clichés. A Viennese operetta with the glamor and lightness of the 1920s.
