With Sister Act – The Heavenly Musical, the Wiener Stadthalle brings a rousing stage adaptation of the cult comedy back to the big event stage: a furious spectacle full of gospel, humor, and feel-good moments that combines two worlds – worldly energy and monastic serenity – into a thrilling musical experience.
The musical centers on the vivacious lounge singer Deloris van Cartier, whose life takes a dramatic turn when she witnesses a crime and has to be placed in a witness protection program. Instead of a glamorous nightlife, however, her path leads her to a quiet convent, where, dressed as a nun, she unexpectedly encounters the strict Mother Superior and a rather uninspired church choir.
With her irrepressible zest for life, sense of rhythm, and distinctive voice, Deloris brings new energy to the convent and rediscovers her own strength in the process. The initially unusual contact between her and the nuns develops into an inspiring story about community, self-discovery, and the liberating power of music. As Deloris revives the sisters' singing, simple choral singing is transformed into a rousing gospel sound that not only changes convent life, but also captivates the audience in the Wiener Stadthalle.
"Sister Act – The Heavenly Musical" combines virtuosity, heart, and a rousing musical range with comedy and a message: a show that combines gospel power, rousing choreography, and warm humanity, bringing the spirit of the original story to life in a new, dynamic stage format.
