Bautzen not only impresses with one of the most beautiful old towns in Germany, but also as the capital of the Sorbs.

The small Slavic people enchant with their culture and joie de vivre
The Sorbs have lived in Lusatia for more than 1000 years. They still speak their own language and actively cultivate their customs. Since 2014, these have even been part of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage.

Visiting the Sorbs:
There's a lot going on in the Sorbian Easter capital of Bautzen: in addition to the traditional Easter horse ride, colorful and elaborately decorated Sorbian Easter eggs and the egg-raising with a view of the historic old town delight guests from near and far - a highlight that couldn't be a better way to ring in spring!
The XV International Folklore Festival ŁUŽICA - ŁUŽYCA - LAUSITZ (26 to 29 June) is also organized by the Sorbs. Dance and folklore ensembles from all over the world will impress you with a colourful and extraordinary program. Let yourself be enchanted by music and dance!

If you want to learn more about the Sorbs during your visit to Bautzen, we recommend the Sorbian Museum with its diverse changing exhibitions of Sorbian artists and the only professional bicultural theater in Germany, the Deutsch-Sorbisches Volkstheater.

Cultural treasures and natural oases:

Many other events make the historic old town with its numerous towers and baroque town houses a year-round experience. In addition to cultural highlights and excellent hospitality, the surrounding nature of Upper Lusatia invites you to stay a little longer. Cycling and hiking tours allow you to explore not only the Upper Lusatian Highlands, but also the UNESCO biosphere reserve of the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape with its unique flora and fauna.
