A powerful orchestra on the edge of the old town: the Konzerthaus Freiburg impressively combines musical diversity with everyday urban life.

When it opened in 1996, the building in the heart of Freiburg im Breisgau, designed by architect Dietrich Bangert, was inaugurated amidst lively debates about urban development, costs and cultural priorities. Although the project was controversial, today the building is regarded as an important space for concerts, conferences and meetings.

Inside is the 1,700+-seat Rolf Böhme Hall - a hall with American cherry paneling, flexible seating and adjustable tier elements. There are also smaller halls and conference rooms that give the building remarkable versatility.
Architecturally, the concert hall deliberately focuses on integration: the façades echo the block structure of the surroundings, large glass surfaces connect the interior and exterior, the foyer opens up invitingly - not as a monumental temple, but as a usable, urban space.

Visitors to the Konzerthaus walk through a modern entrance hall, feel the urban pulse of Freiburg and at the same time enter a space in which music and interior design enter into a dialog - the city penetrates, silence emerges, sound unfolds. In short, the Konzerthaus Freiburg is not a closed cultural palace, but an open house in everyday urban life that impresses with its architecture, acoustics and urban location in equal measure.
