The Moritzburg in Halle combines walls with muse and art with history - a place where architecture and avant-garde interweave to create a unique experience.

The Moritzburg Art Museum in Halle (Saale) takes visitors on a fascinating journey through history and the present. Housed in the late medieval bishop's residence Moritzburg, the museum combines historical architecture with modern museum architecture: old walls meet clear lines, open spaces and an impressive roof construction that harmoniously combines old and new.

The Moritzburg has been home to the art museum since 1904 and has developed into one of the most important museums of classical modern and contemporary art in central Germany. On several levels, it presents works from seven centuries - from the Gothic period to the present day - including paintings, sculptures, graphic art, photography and arts and crafts. Special attention is paid to the art of the 20th century. Under the title "Paths of Modernism", the museum exhibits important works of German Expressionism as well as art movements from the Weimar Republic, the post-war period and the GDR. Artists such as Lyonel Feininger, Max Beckmann and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner are represented here as well as contemporary positions.

With its extraordinary architecture, top-class special exhibitions and one of the largest art-historical collections in Saxony-Anhalt, the Moritzburg Art Museum in Halle (Saale) is a lively place where art, history and architecture combine to create an unforgettable overall experience.
