At MuTh Vienna, Brahms Pur invites you on a chamber music journey through the works of Johannes Brahms: an intense concert that highlights the close connection between Brahms and Clara Schumann and focuses on key works from his quartet repertoire.
An evening focusing on the chamber music soul of Johannes Brahms unfolds in the concert hall of the Vienna Boys' Choir. Under the title Brahms Pur – Auf Claras Spuren (Brahms Pure – In Clara's Footsteps), pianist Beatrice Berrut and her colleagues Benjamin Herzl (violin), Benedict Mitterbauer (viola), and Matthias Bartolomey (cello) explore the musical and emotional connections between Brahms and his close confidante Clara Schumann.
The program features two milestones in Brahms' chamber music: the first piano trio in B major, Op. 8, a work that the composer revised several times during his creative period, and the piano quartet in G minor, Op. 25, which was already celebrated as a great success at its premiere with Clara Schumann at the piano.
The ensemble performs these works with great sensitivity and musical depth, allowing the listener to experience the multi-layered soundscapes and expressive richness of Brahms' language in an intense way. The perfect balance between instrumental virtuosity and chamber music dialogue makes this evening a special journey of discovery through the repertoire of one of the central composers of the Romantic period.
