1250 years full of ideas, inventions and enduring success stories - the exhibition "Gotha genius? - Flashes of inspiration and enduring success stories from 1250 years" at the Gotha Ducal Museum invites you on an inspiring journey through the history of the city.
From April 27, 2025, an exhibition celebrating Gotha's role as a place of innovation, tradition and culture will open at the Ducal Museum. Under the title "Gotha genius? - Flashes of genius and perennial hits from 1250 years", inventions and developments that had an impact far beyond the city will be on display - from educational reforms and mechanical innovations to art, technology and social commitment.

Instead of a pure chronology, the focus is on topics such as "Politics", "Education", "Business & Crafts", "From all over the world to Gotha", "Typical Gotha" and "Festivals and Celebrations". Over 180 exhibits - including original objects, photographs, interviews, audio and video stations - bring the history of the city to life. The collaboration with the University of Erfurt forms a special level: students have conducted oral history interviews and used historical photographs to examine the freedom of citizens in festivals and public spaces.
Whether children's units, sound and video installations or discovery tours - the exhibition appeals to visitors of all ages. "Gotha genius?!" shows how a city not only preserves tradition, but also constantly reinvents itself - with ideas that endure.
