A concert evening that combines the grand forms and expressive depths of orchestral literature: the 8th symphony concert in the Grand Theater of the Hanover State Opera brings together three musical works ranging from Baroque structure to late Romantic symphonies, opening up a wide emotional spectrum.
The program opens with excerpts from The Art of Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach – a work that reveals the intellectual and spiritual core of Baroque music with its strict contrapuntal logic and profound expression. This is followed by the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra "In Memory of an Angel" by Alban Berg , a passionate, highly personal work of the Second Viennese School that highlights the solo voice in a dense orchestral soundscape.
The spectacular finale is Symphony No. 10 in E minor, Op. 93, by Dmitri Shostakovich – a work of overwhelming psychological density. In this symphony, Shostakovich combines dramatic tension, ironic twists, and inner reflection into a musical portrait that oscillates between existential questions and orchestral power. The 10th Symphony is considered a key work of the 20th century and shows how Shostakovich's language speaks with both severity and expressive wildness.
