With the successful exhibition "Käthe Kollwitz. MUT!", Achberg Castle has impressively demonstrated the cultural potential that lies within its historic walls. Now the cultural center on Lake Constance is setting another highlight: from 12 July to 2 November 2025, the "Art & Love" exhibition invites visitors on a special tour through the multi-faceted world of contemporary artist couples.

What happens when two people not only share a life, but also a creative space? How do works of art emerge in the field of tension between intimacy and individuality? The exhibition is dedicated to precisely these questions - with works by 13 couples from different generations and artistic backgrounds. Curator Andrea Dreher has brought together a multifaceted ensemble that ranges from painting and sculpture to performance and installation. The concept of the exhibition is as clever as it is sensual: each couple is given their own space in the castle, with their works entering into a dialog - sometimes harmonious, sometimes confrontational, sometimes playful. The viewer moves from room to room and is immersed in a new artistic cosmos each time, characterized by two personalities who are connected both privately and professionally.

The different forms of collaboration are particularly exciting. Some couples - such as Ashley Hans Scheirl & Jakob Lena Knebl or the Berlin duo SUPER VIVAZ - work consistently as an artistic unit. Others, such as Isa Dahl & Daniel Wagenblast or Simone Zaugg & Pfelder, maintain separate working processes, but demonstrate the power of their artistic contrasts. And still others merge more and more over the years - such as Andrea & Nikolaus Kernbach, whose decades-long connection is also visible on a thematic level.
Despite all their differences, these artist couples are united by one theme: the search for expression, resonance and harmony in creative collaboration. The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on how partnership can be an inspiration - and how art in turn shapes, challenges and deepens relationships.
"Art & Love" is more than just an exhibition. It is an emotional journey through artistic biographies, an invitation to reflect on closeness and autonomy - and further proof that Schloss Achberg has become a permanent fixture in the cultural life of the region over the past few decades.

Open Monument Day
A special event awaits visitors on September 14, the Open Monument Day, when Achberg Castle celebrates its 30th anniversary as a cultural center. In addition to guided tours of the model restoration and hands-on workshops, there will be live music in the evening with the band "Drahtzieher". A feast for the senses - in the middle of the historic setting of the baroque castle high above the Argen Gorge.
