A tragicomic adventure between ideal and reality: "Candide or Optimism" based on Voltaire shows the unshakeable search for meaning in a world torn apart.
Is it possible to remain optimistic even when the world is in chaos? In Candide, Voltaire created a hero who follows the teachings of his teacher Pangloss - the conviction that we live in the best of all possible worlds. But reality belies this belief: Candide is driven away from his courtly love affair with Cunegonde and finds himself on an adventurous odyssey that leads him into the abysses of human existence.
Author Soeren Voima transfers the grotesque odyssey of Candide to our present day. In a world characterized by war, exploitation, poverty and corruption, the naive, tragicomic hero fights his way through countless trials. And although he refuses to let the blows of fate get him down, he eventually realizes that Pangloss' teachings are no reliable support.
