A dream that is stronger than reality: Man of La Mancha tells of the unshakeable power of imagination, the courage to believe in the impossible, and the great desire to defend the good in the world – a classic musical full of heart, humor, and timeless melodies.

At the Stadttheater Kufstein, the popular musical Man of La Mancha brings the legendary story of the knight of the sad countenance to the stage: inspired by Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote narrative, the play has a poet in the dungeon of the Spanish Inquisition bring his famous novel character to life. In order to save a manuscript, he and his faithful squire Sancho Panza transform a gloomy prison into an imaginary world. In this world, he sees noble adventures in everyday events, open windmills become giants, a shabby tavern becomes a stately castle, and in the rough maid Aldonza he recognizes the noble Dulcinea – the queen of his heart and his dreams.

With rousing music that ranks among the musical's best-known numbers and a production that intertwines fantasy and reality, Man of La Mancha invites us to look beyond the boundaries of the world. The characters struggle with ideals and reality, longing and rationality, while the central message of the evening shines through again and again: only those who dare to dream the "impossible dream" can give life a deeper meaning.
