Seduction, power and moral abyss: With Mozart's "Don Giovanni", Theater Erfurt presents the "opera of all operas" - a timeless masterpiece about passion, guilt and the destructive freedom of a man who knows no boundaries.

Don Giovanni is a womanizer, a rake and, above all, a driven man. Unscrupulous, he will use any means to continue his amorous adventures as undisturbed as possible. Lies, evasions, violence ... When Donna Anna refuses to give in to him and her father, the Commendatore, challenges him to a duel, Don Giovanni kills him without further ado. He quickly sets his sights on the next conquest - when his ex, Donna Elvira, turns up to warn other women about him. The system begins to crumble: Don Giovanni, confident of victory, becomes ever more entangled in difficulties - to the sounds of Mozart's immortal music.

The appeal of Don Juan, the most famous seducer in European cultural history who has become a myth, remains a mystery to this day. In their adaptation of the story, Mozart and Da Ponte created an opera that oscillates between tragedy and comedy, fascinatingly exploring the abysses of the man up to mischief in Seville and the turmoil of those around him.

With this production, the new General Music Director Hermes Helfricht conducts his first opera premiere in Erfurt. After her Erfurt Domino debut, the up-and-coming director Alexandra Pape is now bringing the "opera of all operas" to the stage in the Grosses Haus.
