Classic horror meets the power of theater: The Shining comes to the Theater Vorpommern , transforming the stage into a place of psychological tension and atmospheric density.
Based on Stephen King's novel of the same name, the story unfolds in a way that goes far beyond simple moments of horror. Jack Torrance, a writer in search of peace and creative inspiration, takes a job as caretaker at a remote hotel in the mountains. He moves into the enormous, seemingly deserted building with his family—only to soon be overtaken by the eerie forces of the house. Isolation, inner conflicts, and uncanny apparitions merge into a dramatic structure in which the boundaries between reality and delusion become increasingly blurred.
The stage adaptation draws on the dense psychological structure of the original work and translates it into scenic images that make both the uncanny and the fragile in human beings audible and visible. Light, sound, and set design help draw the audience into the claustrophobic atmosphere of the house, while the characters—caught between family ties and inner decay—reflect the psychological state of their environment. The Shining is not a classic horror drama, but a theatrically condensed exploration of inner abysses: an evening that combines fear, expectation, and human fragility in an aesthetically thought-provoking way.
