On the occasion of his 80th birthday, the Bundeskunsthalle is dedicating an immersive and visually powerful exhibition to the filmmaker and artist Wim Wenders.
Wim Wenders is one of the most important international filmmakers and artists. He wrote film history with works such as Paris, Texas, The Sky Over Berlin and Buena Vista Social Club. His documentary films about artists - including the 3D films Pina and Anselm - Das Rauschen der Zeit - have also won numerous awards. A specially designed 3D cinema in the exhibition is dedicated to this innovative film language.

Wim Wenders sees himself as a "traveler and only then as a director or photographer", so the acronym W.I.M. could also stand for "Wenders in Motion". In this sense, the visually powerful exhibition presents the artist's complete visual oeuvre: In addition to the moving image in extensive film compilations, it includes his large-format color photographs, smaller black-and-white photographic works, Polaroids, collages, watercolors and drawings from various phases of his work. Biographical and archival documents (production documents, scripts or letters) as well as behind-the-scene photographic material in a separate area within the exhibition embed the work in its temporal context and allow visitors to immerse themselves in the creative world of Wim Wenders.
Artistic inspiration from the visual arts, literature and music also find a place in the exhibition. Above all, however, the immersive, cinematographic spatial installation he designed especially for Bonn reveals his understanding of images: As a special highlight with the latest digital image and sound technology, it allows visitors to immerse themselves in the visual world, in Wenders' cinematic work.
