The German Newspaper Museum in Wadgassen brings 400 years of press history to life - from old printing presses to digital media worlds, supplemented by exciting exhibits and interactive stations.
Since 2004, the historic Abteihof Wadgassen has been home to the German Newspaper Museum, a unique place that brings the history of the press over 400 years to life. The permanent exhibition is divided into several thematic areas: it shows the development of the newspaper from its beginnings to the present day, illustrates the technical advances in the art of printing and provides insights into the social significance of the press and the public.
Special exhibits such as rare pamphlets from the 17th and 18th centuries, a Luther Bible from 1560, a historic Koenig & Bauer high-speed press from 1867 or a first edition of the Süddeutsche Zeitung from 1945 make the visit an impressive journey through time. At interactive stations, visitors can print a newspaper themselves or explore digital media formats and thus trace the development from the hand press to the modern information society.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, changing special exhibitions ensure that current topics such as freedom of the press, digitalization and the role of journalism in democracy are also addressed. With educational programs, workshops and events, the DZM is a lively place of learning and encounter that offers exciting approaches for both school classes and adults interested in culture.
