A theater building - and at the same time a modern expression of urban architecture and cultural diversity in Potsdam.

The Hans Otto Theater is picturesquely situated on the banks of the deep lake in Schiffbauergasse and immediately catches the eye with its striking design language: the curved, shell-shaped roof lines, the transparent glass façade, the open view of the surrounding landscape. The architecture combines technical precision with a lightness that makes the building appear almost floating.

The heart of the stage is the Grosses Haus, opened in 2006 and equipped with around 485 seats. The flexible stage technology with variable lifting platforms enables a wide range of productions - from classical drama to music and dance theater to experimental formats. The rooms can be designed to be open, the auditorium offers clear sight lines and the proximity between stage and audience has been deliberately chosen. The theater also includes other venues: the historic riding hall, the smaller Box riding hall and the open-air stage directly on the lake. Productions that try out new things, appeal to younger target groups or test unusual theatrical forms are created in the riding halls in particular. The diversity of the venues has a decisive influence on the profile of the theater.

In terms of content, the Hans Otto Theater focuses on a mix of classics, contemporary plays, musical productions and theater for children and young people. One focus is on opening up to the city: collaborations, participatory projects and cultural events make the theater a meeting place for the entire region.
