The LWL Museum of Art and Culture is located at Domplatz 10, in the historic center of Münster - a place where over 1,000 years of art history from the Middle Ages to the present day comes to life. With around 350,000 exhibits, including important works of fine art, sculpture, graphic art, photography, coins and library collections, the museum is one of the most important cultural institutions in Westphalia.
The ensemble consists of a renovated neo-Renaissance old building and a light-flooded new building, which merge into an urban meeting point thanks to generous public passageways, a patio and an open foyer. The design, materials and spatial sequences promote direct communication between the museum, citizens and the urban space.
Interactive tours and themed presentations unfold in 51 modern exhibition rooms - including works by artists such as August Macke, Franz Marc, Ludwig Kirchner, Otto Piene and Gerhard Richter. Highlights of the collection include the 12th century Gerlachus panes - early masterpieces of Romanesque stained glass.

Otto Piene's light sculpture Silver Frequency, which fills the Münster sky with a silvery rhythm at the museum exit, is also part of the sensual richness.
Accessibility, a museum café, a bookshop and a variety of educational formats - from museum tours to interactive workshops - ensure that art can be experienced by all levels of the public. A visit to the LWL Museum of Art and Culture is a journey through time and style: historical masterpieces, modern architecture and lively education combine to create an inspiring place for art education in the heart of Münster.
