Paul Gugelmann's poetic machines are unique works of art. Each one is unique in itself, not only lovingly designed and realized by the artist, but also imbued with an individual story and meaning.
Paul Gugelmann was born in Schönenwerd on May 19, 1929. After school and a stay in Switzerland, Paul Gugelmann joined the advertising department of Bally Schuhfabriken, became a graphic designer, then a créateur and moved to Paris in 1951 as a trained shoe designer, where he set up a creation studio for Bally and managed it for many years. Gugelmann painted, drew and modeled in every spare minute. Until his return to Switzerland in 1969, he continued to create fantastic sculptures powered by steam.
In Switzerland, his artistic work continued unabated. Despite significant offers, the 'poetic machines' remained unsold; in accordance with the artist's wishes, they were transferred to a foundation in 1994 and can now be viewed in the museum in Schönenwerd, which was created especially for them in 1995.
Regular special exhibitions with artists who cultivate the same ideas as Paul Gugelmann not only enliven the museum, but also the minds of all art lovers.
