At the Gewerbemuseum Winterthur, seventeen artists and designers transform the rhythms of the day and the seasons into atmospheric landscapes of light and sound and explore the question of what the biological clocks of living beings and the influence of daylight are all about. They explore the secrets of sleep and dreams, create alternative images of time and conjure up the power and beauty of daylight.

Jet lag, night shifts, switching from summer to winter time, urban lifestyles and light pollution: when and how do we actually sleep and when do we need activity? Whether bats, plants, insects or humans - they have all internalized the 24-hour day-night rhythm in order to optimally adapt their behaviour and bodily functions.Together with artists, designers and architects, the exhibition Lighten Up! at the Gewerbemuseum Winterthur explores the relationship between living organisms and the circadian (circa diem = approximately one day) cycle of light and darkness. The exhibition shows both the power and the beauty of daylight, introduces the mysteries of biological clocks and explores the secrets of sleep and dreams. It reminds us not only of the sun's course in the sky, but also of the necessity of regular natural light exposure for a healthy life. The phenomenon of ever brighter nights due to artificial light and its negative consequences for all living beings is also highlighted.
