The Saarländisches Staatstheater in Saarbrücken combines architectural character with cultural diversity - a place where opera, drama, dance and concerts perform in a lively symbiosis.

In the heart of Saarbrücken stands the Saarland State Theatre, an outstanding cultural institution that has an impact beyond the borders of the Saarland. The theater unites opera, drama, ballet and concerts under one roof and addresses a broad cultural public with its program.

Its building was erected in 1937-1938 in the neoclassical style, according to plans by Paul Baumgarten, and is now a listed building in Saarbrücken. During renovations in the 1980s with the involvement of Gottfried Böhm, the theater was structurally modernized and enriched with design accents as a space for contemporary productions. With around 30 new productions per season and over 700 events, the theater is one of the most vibrant centers of the performing arts. More than 200,000 visitors come every year - from local theater fans to guests from the border triangle of Germany, France and Luxembourg.

The Saarländisches Staatstheater focuses not only on classical operas and dramas, but also on experimental formats, cabaret and the "sparte4" division - a space for urban art, contemporary theater forms and cultural encounters. The performances are staged in several venues: the Grosses Haus, the Alte Feuerwache, the Congresshalle and sparte4, which gives the theater program great flexibility.
