"Our inner being is more valuable than all titles and dignities." (Empress Elisabeth)
Year after year, she dances her way into people's hearts as she waltzes across the television screens - the Empress Elisabeth. Flowing, beaded hair, exorbitant dresses, snow-covered mountains. This is how home works! So in the movie. And on the theater stage? Fritz Kreisler and the Marischka brothers showed us how in 1932. With bite and musical meringue, they let Sissy sail across Lake Starnberg in a small sailing boat - not at all ladylike. She doesn't want to be. And so she shakes up the vain etiquette of her aristocratic family between Ischl and the Vienna Woods.
No eye remains dry, no waltz undanced, no convention unbroken. Director Frank Hilbrich devotes himself to this tricky adventure between comedy, salon play and sentimental operetta. Until the question arises: What is actually being sought? Love or one's own self?
