When the alleyways of Esslingen are bathed in warm lantern light, the crackling of fireplaces fills the air and bagpipes, drums and the scent of spiced wine fill the air above the squares, a journey back in time to another world begins: Esslingen's medieval and Christmas market is one of the most atmospheric Advent experiences in Germany.

For four weeks, the historic old town with its magnificent half-timbered houses and romantic squares is transformed into a lively medieval village. Over 180 stalls offer arts and crafts, culinary specialties and authentic goods - from handmade paper and delicate glasswork to finely chiselled pewter cups. As you stroll through the narrow alleyways, you can immerse yourself in times gone by, when traders, jugglers and craftsmen shaped everyday life.
Minstrels, jugglers and fire artists provide a varied cultural program on three stages and in the streets. The sound of hurdy-gurdies, flutes and timpani mingle with the laughter of the audience, while knights test their strength on the open stage or storytellers bring tales from ancient times to life. Particularly fascinating are the demonstrations by craftsmen - pewterers, spoon carvers, blacksmiths, glassblowers and stonemasons - who show off their skills right in front of the visitors.

The market is also an experience for children: stories from faraway lands come to life in the fairytale tent, while archery, historical games and skill tests await in Dwarf Land. And the world's smallest hand-operated Ferris wheel makes its leisurely rounds - a nostalgic highlight for the whole family.
Of course, there is also plenty to eat and drink: Sweet mead and berry wine flows in the taverns, accompanied by hearty dishes, roasted meat, fresh bread and warming soups made according to medieval recipes. If you want to take a break, you will find a place where history, music and enjoyment merge into a magical unity at the fireplaces or in the taverns.
