The Sudeten German Museum in Munich is dedicated to the eventful history and rich culture of the German-speaking population in Bohemia, Moravia and Sudeten Silesia - the regions where Germans, Czechs and Jews shaped a fascinating, shared culture for centuries. Today, the museum is much more than a place of remembrance: it sees itself as a lively forum for dialog, education and encounters. This autumn and winter, the museum invites visitors to a varied program that brings history to life and addresses current topics - from technology and mobility to cultural heritage and social issues.
The focus is on the special exhibition "Ferdinand Porsche and other pioneers. Pioneers of mobility from Bohemia and Moravia", which can be seen until January 11, 2026. It tells the story of the people who shaped the age of mobility with their ingenuity and passion: Ferdinand Porsche, Franz von Gerstner, Albin Hugo Liebisch and Willibald Gatter, whose preserved small car model is being presented for the first time. The exhibition shows that technical innovation is always also a human vision - and at the same time raises questions about responsibility, progress and social change.

In addition to the exhibition, the museum offers numerous events, guided tours and readings: The "Living Memory" writing café on December 4 provides space for personal stories, while the popular short format "Under the magnifying glass - 20 minutes, one exhibit" offers exciting insights into selected pieces from the collection. Particularly impressive are the curator tours with readings and thematic focuses, such as "With courage and drive - the female contribution to mobility" (December 9 and 11).
A highlight of the event year is the "Sudeten German Dialogues" on November 27, 2025. Under the title "Minority Issues in Central Europe - Solution Concepts from 1905 to Today", the international conference is dedicated to historical and current perspectives on autonomy, identity and coexistence. Together with Eurac Research Bolzano, the conference will span from Moravia to South Tyrol and Ukraine - an important contribution to a European dialog on cultural diversity and peace.
The Advent season is also all about culture and encounters: from November 25, 2025 to January 18, 2026, the small exhibition "Christmas Magic" will enchant the museum's foyer. Workshops, guided tours and family programs - such as the Christmas workshop on 29 November or the family workshop "On the road at Christmas" on 13 December - invite visitors of all ages to join in.

The new year begins with creative energy: the vacation program "Designers wanted!" (January 5, 2026) and the themed tour "Mobility and Morality" (January 7) will take you further into the world of technological history and its ethical dimensions. For the grand finale on January 11, 2026, the museum invites you to a festive finissage with family tours, music and talks - a day full of movement, sound and memories.
The Sudeten German Museum thus presents itself as a place of lively cultural mediation: a space in which past and future, history and present, technology and humanity resonate with each other. It is well worth a visit - especially at this special time of year.
