A concert and event venue with history and character - centrally located in Potsdam's city center and a lively place for music and culture for decades.
The Nikolaisaal was opened in 1909 as the parish hall of the Nikolaikirche and has since been used for a variety of purposes. After severe war damage and a long period of disuse, it was completely renovated after the fall of the Berlin Wall and reopened as a modern cultural center in 2000. The architecture combines historical elements with a clear, contemporary design and creates an atmosphere that is both open and focused.
The Great Hall offers space for around 725 guests and is particularly versatile thanks to its acoustics: it carries large orchestral sounds as well as chamber music, readings or jazz formations. The proximity between the stage and the audience creates an immediate concert feeling that many visitors appreciate.
The Nikolaisaal has a deliberately broad program. In addition to classical music, jazz, pop and world music evenings, film concerts, readings and comedy events take place here. Festivals, children's programs and regional cultural formats also have their place here. The experience is complemented by a spacious foyer with a café and technical equipment that makes events of all kinds possible. The Nikolaisaal sees itself as an open house that makes culture accessible and promotes encounters - a place that shapes Potsdam's musical life and at the same time attracts people from all over the region.
