Bühnen Halle is not just a theater company - it is a mirror of Halle's theater history: a multi-genre theater with roots in the 17th century and a view of the present.
Bühnen Halle (officially Theater, Oper und Orchester GmbH Halle) is an outstanding five-division theater with opera, ballet, state orchestra, drama (Neues Theater & Thalia Theater) and puppet theater. With over 1,000 performances per season and more than 220,000 visitors, it is one of the most influential cultural institutions in Saxony-Anhalt.
Its history dates back to 1654, when a court opera house was founded in Halle for the first time. Even if this early phase only lasted a short time, it marked the beginning of an ongoing theatrical life, which later developed further in changing houses, fires and ambitious new buildings. The municipal theater has existed since 1886 and provided important impetus until its destruction in the Second World War. After the war, the opera building was reopened in 1951, and over the course of time, the current multi-genre theater was formed.

A special location is the Kulturinsel Halle, which is home to the neue theater and the Thalia Theater. The new theater was developed in 1981 from the conversion of a former cinema and is now regarded as a distinctive communication center in the cityscape. Since 2002, it has also been home to the Puppentheater Halle - with an international reputation, especially thanks to its productions for adults.
The Staatskapelle Halle was formed through the merger of the Philharmonic Orchestra and the Opera Orchestra and forms the musical backbone of the opera house. It not only performs in opera and ballet productions, but also uses the Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Halle, the Steintor-Varieté and the Pavilion series for concerts with a wide range of sounds.
A visit to the Bühnen Halle is therefore a journey through the history of the city, an encounter with the diversity of the theater and an announcement of cultural participation: Here, art and audiences work within structures that have both proven themselves and changed over the centuries.
