FOTO ARSENAL WIEN is the new exhibition venue for photography and lens-based media in Austria. Since 2023 we have been responsible for the FOTO WIEN festival, from 2025 together with Kunsthalle Wien for the Vienna Digital Cultures festival.

Initiated by the City of Vienna in autumn 2022, the FOTO ARSENAL WIEN opens up to all facets of photography as a media competence center. As a hub, the institution anchors historical, national and international topics at the interface between the analog and digital worlds as well as between static and moving images.

From June 2023 to June 2024, the institution was at a temporary location in the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna's 7th district. In spring 2025, the FOTO ARSENAL WIEN will move into its new building on the Arsenal site in Vienna's 3rd district.

With around 1,000 m² of exhibition space, the FOTO ARSENAL WIEN presents the entire spectrum of the medium of photography with up to 12 exhibitions per year - a combination of young talents, undiscovered positions and internationally renowned artists.

With its own "Activities" department, FOTO ARSENAL WIEN has not only created an extensive range of educational activities with workshops for children, young people and adults, but also its second mainstay, with its own seminar rooms and an analog darkroom.
