The series of philharmonic concerts ends with a grand musical farewell: in Hall 207, the Volkstheater Rostock concludes the season with a program of existential depth and sonic power.
Principal Conductor Marcus Bosch concludes the season with Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 9 – the composer's last completed work, written between Dobbiaco and New York. In this large-scale score, Mahler looks back with melancholy, bids farewell, and at the same time explores the limits of what can be expressed through music. The symphony unfolds a bold tonal structure in which retrospection, doubt, and visions overlap. With extreme expressive tension and formal radicalism, Mahler crosses the threshold into modernism and creates a work of shattering intensity.
The evenings begin with Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Violin Concerto in E minor, the epitome of exuberance, elegance, and lyrical brilliance. Spanish violinist Leticia Moreno will make her debut as soloist at the Philharmonic's season finale. With virtuoso precision and great expressive depth, she will perform this key work of Romantic concert literature, providing a luminous counterpoint to Mahler's late farewell work.
The combination of Mendelssohn's youthful musical poetry and Mahler's existential finality creates a season finale of particular dramatic intensity – a concert that not only addresses the theme of farewell, but also makes it a musical experience.
