The Haydn House Eisenstadt is located at Haydngasse 19-21 and, together with the neighboring house, forms the Haydn Center. Joseph Haydn acquired this house in 1766 and lived in it with his wife Maria Anna Theresia until 1778. The house is home to the exhibition "Haydn @ home - private, interesting and amusing facts" and the extension under the motto: "This is how the Haydn House sounds!". Every year, around 10,000 guests visit this authentic place, where Haydn's spirit can still be felt.

The permanent exhibition provides authentic insights into Haydn's everyday life and reflects the taste of the 18th century with faithfully reconstructed rooms, colorful striped patterns and lovingly designed staging. In addition to his musical work, aspects of his private life are also illuminated - from his rumored love affairs to his wife's culinary expertise.

Multimedia experiences and new worlds of sound
The exhibition is complemented by innovative multimedia elements that allow visitors to experience Haydn's work in a special way. Under the motto "This is what the Haydn House sounds like!", visitors have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the sounds of individual orchestral instruments and discover extraordinary exhibits. The original organ console of the former Haydn organ from the Bergkirche and a copy of the Harmoniemesse illustrate the outstanding importance of Haydn for the church music of his time.

Another highlight is the baryton, the preferred instrument of Prince Nikolaus I Esterházy. A special section is dedicated to Haydn's operas, which are rarely found on the repertoires of major opera houses today. Here, interactive productions and original scores invite visitors to rediscover these works. The exhibition concludes with a room dedicated to the reception of Haydn's music up to the present day, highlighting its significance for orchestras and ensembles worldwide.
