Craig Taborn, an absolute world star of avant-garde jazz, is coming to Hamburg.

For more than a quarter of a century, the pianist from Minneapolis has been searching for new sounds. He finds them not only on his own instrument, but also on modular synthesizers and in electronic effects, which he layers over his improvisational playing. DownBeat magazine therefore called him "one of the great visionaries of the current scene". No wonder he has brought musicians on board for his trio who share his passion for improvisation and sound.

With Tomeka Reid, the instrument alone makes you sit up and take notice: with her cello, she gives the trio an exclusive touch. And drummer Ches Smith regularly expands the soundscape of his drum set with spherical vibraphone sounds. Last season, they both performed at guitarist Marc Ribot's "Reflektor" festival at the Elbphilharmonie and wowed the audience with their original sounds and sophisticated improvisations.
