A home game of art history: the exhibition "Welcome home! - Altenburg acquisitions by the Lindenau Museum after 1945" tells the story of rediscovery and preservation - an exciting look at the region's art scene and its collectors.

From 24 October 2025 to 11 January 2026, the Lindenau-Museum Altenburg will provide insights into a little-known but important aspect of its collection history: the acquisitions from Altenburg and the surrounding area after 1945. Under the motto "Welcome home!", the exhibition presents artists and work buyers who were active outside the major art centers and shows how works of regional importance found their way into the museum.

Thanks to the commitment of personalities such as Hanns-Conon von der Gabelentz, more than fifty works of art from Altenburg reached the museum in the years following the Second World War - including paintings and prints by Alfred Ahner, Erich Fraaß, Walter Leistikow and Käthe Rocco. Behind these acquisitions lie stories of collectors' passion, factory owners' treasures and forgotten painters, which are now in the spotlight for the first time.

The exhibition is a reminder that art is not only created in big cities - but also in small towns, supported by people, community and the desire to preserve culture. A visit is worthwhile for anyone who wants to experience art history not just as "big names", but as a living network of places, encounters and heirlooms.
