Magic, music and humanity: With Mozart's "Magic Flute", the Lucerne Theater takes us into a world between fairy tale and insight - a timeless play about love, courage and the search for truth.

Tamino is threatened by a snake and faints from fright. The star-flaming Queen of the Night has him rescued by her three ladies and entrusts him with an even greater rescue task: to free her daughter Pamina, who has been kidnapped by Sarastro. Accompanied by the jolly birdcatcher Papageno and equipped with a magic flute and a magic bell, Tamino embarks on a journey in which he has to pass several tests and gain wisdom.

The "Magic Flute", the last of Mozart's operas to be premiered in Vienna in 1791, crowns Mozart's entire operatic oeuvre. With its rich melodies and contrasting styles, it covers the entire emotional spectrum, from deep heartbreak to bird-catcher cheerfulness. In the guise of a fairy tale, Mozart's world-famous singspiel tells of the discovery of love and one's own strength and directly explores what it means to be human.
