Raise the curtain on the automobile invented by Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler in 1886: the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart brings its history and stories to life, showing the connection between technology and everyday life, contemporary history and popular culture. More than 160 vehicles of all kinds are the main protagonists. They range from some of the oldest automobiles in history to legendary racing cars and research vehicles. Together with other exhibits, the vehicles form the heart of the permanent exhibition in twelve rooms with a total area of 16,500 square meters. This unique world can be discovered on two tours that follow the narrative threads "Myth" and "Collection".

Seven myth rooms take you from the invention of the automobile to the present day through automotive and contemporary history. Myth rooms 1 and 7 are independently designed. Myth rooms 2 to 6 have an identical basic concept and are connected to each other via ramps around 80 meters long. The path leads down to the next level in wide arches, as if along a cloverleaf, so that the vehicles and the staging of the rooms put the viewer in the right mood at an early stage. The illustrated chronicle on the wall along the ramp provides accompanying information on the history of the era and the company.

Five Mercedes-Benz research vehicles from the past and present form the interface between the museum tour and the Fascination of Technology exhibition area on level 0, which is dedicated to the Mercedes-Benz design process.
The collection rooms are quite different: here, for example, buses and cabs, trucks, fire engines and ambulances as well as former vehicles of celebrities show the entire product diversity of the Mercedes-Benz brand with a focus on certain key areas. A floor graphic reminiscent of road markings refers to the respective theme in each collection room and picks up on the vehicle presentation: in the Gallery of Helpers, for example, the exhibits are aligned to the center of the room with various historic emergency call pillars, while in the Gallery of Names they are placed on elegant wooden pedestals.
