Opened in 1877, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) is one of Europe's leading museums of design. Its unique collection ranges from antiquity to contemporary innovations and encompasses the European, East Asian and Islamic cultural areas. Numerous exhibitions, events and projects open up a view of social development and question the design of the world.

Glitter sparkles and flickers, fascinates and outrages. It can be found on stages as well as on protest posters and in children's rooms. Glitter is omnipresent - and yet the MK&G is the first museum in the world to dedicate an exhibition to this material. The exhibition focuses on glitter in current political contexts and collective movements, as a material and metaphor for visibility, belonging and self-determination. Around 40 international positions from art and design are brought together - they are dedicated to glitter as a means of protest, performance and pop culture, as a symbol of the visualization of marginalized groups and resistance against body norms. Visitors are always invited to participate. Be it by adding important glitter events to a sparkling timeline of the invention, use and banning of the material or by tinkering in the D.I.Y. room. For a polyphonic glitter cosmos in the exhibition, private favorite objects were sought in an open call.
