The Balé de Cidade São Paulo was founded on February 7, 1968 as the Municipal Ballet Corps to accompany the operas of the Teatro and perform works from the classical repertoire. In 1974, under the direction of Antônio Carlos Cardoso, it evolved into a contemporary ballet. The ballet is known for both challenging and developing its performers through innovative choreographies. Its successful international career began in 1996 with its participation in the Biennale des Tanzes in Lyon, France. Since then, its international tours have been acclaimed by both critics and audiences in every major theater it has visited.
