Schönbrunn Palace is one of Austria's most important cultural assets and has been one of the most important sights in Vienna since the 1960s. In December 1996, on the occasion of the 20th session of the World Heritage Committee, Schönbrunn Palace was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, which was established in 1972. The inscription on this globally renowned list confirms the importance of the palace and the entire garden complex as a Baroque synthesis of the arts.

In the originally furnished imperial state rooms and living quarters, you will gain an insight into how Maria Theresa, Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth, also known as Sisi, once resided.
The former summer residence of the Habsburgs was originally commissioned by Emperor Leopold I from the Baroque architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach as a hunting lodge at the end of the 17th century and redesigned almost 50 years later in the Rococo style as Maria Theresa's summer residence. It was not until the end of the 19th century that Franz Joseph, who was born and died at Schönbrunn, lived there all year round.
Discover the private apartments of the imperial couple Franz Joseph & Sisi and the precious rooms from the time of Maria Theresa. The large gallery, Empress Elisabeth's toilet room, the Marie Antoinette Room, the Porcelain Room and many other highlights.
