On the stage of the Kassel State Theater , Zornfried is a new musical theater premiere that focuses on current political issues and looks at radical contemporary patterns from a historical perspective.
In Zornfried, a group of thought leaders from the so-called New Right gather at the fictional castle of Zornfried and offer a disturbing glimpse into the dynamics of right-wing populist ideas. There, ethnic nationalism meets combative rituals of masculinity, unfolding a political panorama that dramatically sharpens the contours of social polarization, concepts of identity, and the seductive power of ideologies.
This world premiere combines contemporary music with theatrical narrative power: composer Philipp Krebs and librettist Jörg-Uwe Albig, in collaboration with the ensemble and the director, develop a powerful scenic language that explores proximity and distance, discourse and provocation. Zornfried questions the collective will to shape society in times of social tension and invites the audience to directly experience the changing field between historical responsibility and political imagination.
Premiere April 18, 2026
Further performances: April 23, May 2, 9, 15, and 29, 2026
