Intrigue, doubt, and the search for truth: with William Shakespeare's "Hamlet," Theater Trier brings one of the most famous dramas in world literature to the stage—a timeless play about power, morality, and the fragility of human certainties.
Driven by a sinister suspicion, Prince Hamlet interrupts his studies abroad to return to the royal court. Following the sudden death of his father, his uncle Claudius has taken over the reins of government with suspicious haste and, on top of that, has married Hamlet's mother. Something is rotten—not only in the state, but also in this family.
Urged on by his father's ghost, Hamlet must now seek revenge. He sets out to uncover the dark machinations behind his father's death. He must expose them, reveal the truth, and bring those responsible to justice, and he is prepared to risk everything that was important to him until then. On a political level, everything has long since been thrown into turmoil, a deep rift has formed within the family, and even among his friends, the question arises as to who really has his best interests at heart and whom he can still trust. Who is deceiving whom here? How can Hamlet provide convincing evidence, and what consequences will this have?
In this psychological drama about power and intrigue at the highest political level and within the closest family circle, Hamlet searches for reality, his identity, and allies, delving ever deeper into a world where soon no one can follow him, using deception and delusion until he himself no longer recognizes what is real and what is an act.
