Bill Laurance's solo evening moves between classical virtuosity, jazz, and free improvisation. Bill Laurance. In Darmstadt, the multi-award-winning pianist presents an intimate concert format that leaves room for sound, silence, and spontaneous musical developments.

Bill Laurance, five-time Grammy Award winner and founding member of the band Snarky Puppy, is one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. Originally trained in classical music, he effortlessly combines different styles and develops a personal musical language that unfolds between structured composition and free improvisation. In addition to his work as a stage musician, his creative output includes film scores, advertising compositions—including for Apple—and collaborations with renowned ensembles such as the WDR Big Band and the Metropole Orkest.

The evening will focus on works from his latest solo album Lumen, which was recorded at St. Faith's Church in London. The sacred space shapes the character of the music: Laurance explores the entire sound cosmos of the concert grand piano and combines through-composed passages with spontaneous improvisations. Pieces such as the impressionistic, floating title track "Lumen" or the rhythmically marked "Dove" are examples of music that combines openness, depth, and tonal freedom. At Centralstation Darmstadt, this solo performance becomes an invitation to immerse oneself completely in the moment and experience music as an immediate experience.
