A glittering gala evening is dedicated to operetta and its unmistakable blend of elegance, emotion, and subtle humor. At the Alte Oper Frankfurt , the program combines famous arias and duets from the Austro-Hungarian operetta repertoire.
The focus of the evening is on Jonas Kaufmann, one of the most sought-after tenors of our time. Under the motto "Magical Tones" – named after the famous aria from Karl Goldmark's Die Königin von Saba (The Queen of Sheba) – a musical journey unfolds through works by Karl Goldmark, Franz Lehár, Emmerich Kálmán and other representatives of the so-called Silver Age of Operetta. Together with the renowned Swedish soprano Malin Byström , Kaufmann has created an evening that showcases the stylistic diversity of this genre – from sumptuous melodies and dance-like lightness to melancholic undertones.
The two soloists are accompanied by the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Jochen Rieder. The program includes excerpts from operetta classics such as The Merry Widow, The Land of Smiles, Giuditta, The Csárdás Princess, and Countess Mariza. The evening presents operetta not as light entertainment, but as an independent art form with charm, depth, and a keen sense for the nuances of life.
