With the ballet evening KOSMOS - SCHWERELOS, the dance department of the Nationaltheater Mannheim [NTM] is visiting Stuttgart with two pieces that explore the boundaries of space and time.

In his choreography SCHWERE los, the artistic director and head choreographer of NTM Tanz Mannheim Stephan Thoss explores the possibilities of order and limits in dance. Weightlessness describes a state of lacking gravity. It is precisely this force, which is constantly at work on earth, that provides support, but also creates dependency, which choreographers and dancers are only too happy to resist. With his musical approach, Thoss illustrates physical devotion and the desire to use the body to counter not only the laws of physics, but also the power of music.

For Kosmos, created in 2014 for Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Andonis Foniadakis was inspired by the frenetic pace of everyday urban life. The Greek choreographer, who has already worked with numerous international companies, has the dancers of the NTM chase after the zeitgeist. As if in a maelstrom, they whirl across the stage so rapidly to the percussion sounds of Julien Tarride that one wonders in which cosmos they are moving.
