In 2019, Neuruppin and the entire state of Brandenburg celebrated the 200th anniversary of Theodor Fontane's birth. This year marks the 200th birthday of Emilie Fontane, the woman at his side. The program of the Fontane Festival also ties in with "Emilie.200". It is by no means just about the image of women in the 19th century, but also about the role of women and family models in the present day.

Neuruppin opens the 11th Fontane Festival at Whitsun with the Fontane Poetry Project. The actors Anne Ratte-Polle, Johann von Bülow and Jenny Schily (from left) will present Fontane poems and ballads on Friday, May 17 at 7 pm in Neuruppin's Kulturkirche.
After the start of the festival on Friday evening, guests will be culturally entertained at Whitsun: with the witty auction theater "Ein gewisses Quantum Mumpitz", with readings from the travel literature festival "Neben der Spur", with literary Fontane city walks, with a radio play courtyard, Fontane open-air reading, bus excursion and Fontane nature hike. On May 11, the people of Neuruppin invite you to "Come in!" to their courtyards.
