Chemnitz Theatre combines tradition and diversity - a place where architecture, music and drama shape the cultural identity of the city.
With its opera, drama, ballet and concerts, Chemnitz Theatre is a lively center of the Saxon cultural landscape. At its heart is the opera house on Theaterplatz, a magnificent building that was erected between 1906 and 1909 and still marks the cultural center of the city today. Its impressive architecture combines elegance with urban representation and makes the building one of Chemnitz's landmarks.
But it's not just the outward appearance that impresses - the program is also characterized by diversity. Classical operas, lavishly staged ballets, modern drama productions and bold world premieres characterize the repertoire. Together with the traditional Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra, evenings of high musical quality are created that radiate far beyond the region.

The Schauspielhaus, which was rebuilt after a fire and opened in 1980, complements the ensemble with contemporary theater and innovative formats. Puppet theater and experimental projects also have their place here. With the current refurbishment and further development, Chemnitz Theatre is also looking to the future without forgetting its history. A visit to this theater means immersing yourself in the cultural soul of the city - an experience that combines tradition and the present in a unique way.
