The Staatsschauspiel Dresden is a lively center for the performing arts - where drama, performance and encounters merge into a pulse in the heart of the city.

The Staatsschauspiel Dresden combines tradition, innovation and artistic diversity at two venues: the Schauspielhaus in the Innere Altstadt and the Kleines Haus in the Neustadt. With around 600 performances per season, the theater offers a diverse range of drama, performance, music and contemporary formats that delight audiences from the city and the region alike.

The striking Schauspielhaus was built between 1911 and 1913 in the neo-baroque and art nouveau style - with a façade adapted to the neighboring baroque architecture of the Zwinger. It survived war and destruction; after severe damage in 1945, it was rebuilt and later extensively renovated, combining historical elements with modern structures. The interior was redesigned several times to meet today's requirements in terms of technology, stage and spatial effect.

In contrast, the Kleines Haus often produces experimental productions, intimate theater formats and projects from a contemporary context. Here, the ensemble acts with courage and openness, always seeking a direct connection to the audience and overriding formal boundaries.

As Dresden's central stage, the Staatsschauspiel not only represents the art of acting, but also social commitment. In addition to the classics, it hosts world premieres, collaborations with other arts groups and events organized by the Bürgerbühne. Here, theater becomes a public arena in which topics and issues of our time are vividly negotiated - a place where life and stage meet.
