The Erfurt Theater is considered one of the most modern theatres in Europe and at the same time is part of the city's long theatrical tradition, which dates back to the 18th century. The striking new building was opened in 2003 and, with its clear, light-flooded architecture, blends harmoniously into the historic ensemble of the cathedral and Severi church. Generous glass fronts, elegant lines and an open interior design make the building itself a symbol of transparency and cultural openness.
The heart of the theater beats in the large auditorium with around 800 seats, which is known for its excellent acoustics and versatile stage technology.
