Located in the heart of the creative Kreuzberg district, the Berlinische Galerie is a place where Berlin's art history and contemporary art enter into a dialog with one another. Since moving into a former industrial hall in 2004, the museum has represented the art, photography and architecture that has been created in Berlin since around 1870 - a focus that clearly characterizes the building.

The visit begins in the light-flooded foyer of the converted glass warehouse, continues into the clearly designed exhibition rooms and ends in the permanent exhibition "Art in Berlin 1880-1980", in which the development of painting, photography and architecture can be experienced from a Berlin perspective. At the same time, the gallery regularly hosts temporary exhibitions on current artistic positions and social issues.

What makes the Berlinische Galerie special is its ambivalent view: On the one hand, it presents important chapters such as the Dada movement in Berlin, New Objectivity or art after the fall of the Berlin Wall - on the other hand, it remains open to contemporary impulses, experiments and curatorial surprises. Its collection includes works, photographs, architectural archives and artists' estates, which opens up a multi-layered view of the city, history and design.

Whether admiring selected classics or engaging in current debates on contemporary art: A visit here invites you to see art not just as an object, but as an expression of a city that is constantly changing.
