In a revitalized boiler house at the Zollhafen, the Kunsthalle Mainz offers contemporary art with a social focus - in architecturally attractive rooms, accompanied by a dialogical educational program and an experimental atmosphere.
In the innovatively redesigned former boiler house of the Mainz customs port - supplemented by a striking tower inclined at seven degrees - the Kunsthalle Mainz now presents international contemporary art in an open and dialogical setting. The Kunsthalle Mainz Foundation has been promoting discourse on art, politics and society since 2007 and has set itself the goal of establishing Mainz as a permanent location for modern art.
With around 840 m² of exhibition space divided into spacious halls in the old building and cabinet-like rooms in the tower, the Kunsthalle presents three to four ambitious temporary exhibitions each year - from renowned European artists to up-and-coming positions, always in the field of tension of current social issues. A diverse educational program consisting of tours, workshops, discussion formats and an integrated screening room for film art opens up art as a sensual and poetic approach to reality.
The "Kleine Halle" children's and youth program makes current exhibition themes accessible in a playful way - here, visitors can create, experiment and participate. The Kunsthalle Mainz is therefore not only an exhibition venue, but also a lively platform for reflection, encounters and cultural education in the midst of a changing urban district.
